1965 - 2006

Joe Cooper was born at Hillcrest Hospital in Petaluma, January 15, 1965 and died at his home in Petaluma on November 15, 2006 after a year long struggle with cancer. He was 41. During his last days, Joe was surrounded by family. He is survived by his parents Ray and Dodie Cooper, his brothers Ray Cooper, Jr. and Alvin Cooper. His grandmother, Faye Busalacchi predeceased him, March 6, 2006. Joe was the principal caregiver for his grandmother with whom he shared a special bond.

Joe was born and raised in Petaluma California and also lived in San Francisco for much of his adult life. Joe's occupations were many but most recently centered around the real estate market. He owned property in Rohnert Park, Petaluma, San Francisco and Palm Springs. He loved to travel and spent a lot of time in Palm Springs, as well as other destinations throughout the World.

Joe participated in the SFGSL for 12 years in many capacities. Beloved friend, player, coach, umpire, SFGSL committee member, etc. He played on many different teams throughout the years and made many friends along the way. He was also the founder of the Russian River Rainbow Classic and was instrumental in running it since its inception. The tournament has now been renamed The Russian River Joe Cooper Rainbow Classic Softball Tournament in his honor.

Joe's generosity, love and support went just beyond friends and family. He was very generous with his support to the community as well. This included his participating in two AIDS Lifecycle rides to Los Angeles, raising thousands of dollars to help fight AIDS.

Joe's friends were primary in his life and provided a network of love and support. None more loving and attentive than John Barragan, who was with him on this last year's fight with cancer. His most lasting legacy is his loving heart and generous soul. The hope is that will sustain those who he leaves behind. We are all grateful for the time we shared with him.
